Why Is A Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure Necessary Before A Hysterectomy?

I have had abnormal pap smears since I had my son he is no 8. This last one came back abnormal high risk they wanted me to do a scrape and when I was in there if they want to do a biopsy period while I was in there they scheduled me for a Leep. Biopsy came back positive. I have requested to do a hysterectomy and they have told me they have to do the Leep first to figure out what kind of hysterectomy I need. Why do I have to do the Leep?

Hi,

If the LEEP procedure is for additional diagnostic aid in terms of histology then its fine.

Otherwise, for proceeding to hysterectomy one may or may not require LEEP depending upon the choice of the surgeon.

I quote to get it done for better histology evaluation which will be surely helpful in your surgery ahead.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
