Why Is Bronchitis Misdiagnosed As Asthma?

Is it possible to be misdiagnosed with asthma? I was diagnosed with asthma during a time when I had bronchitis. My pulmonologist never performed any tests to show that I had asthma. I have never had an asthma attack and was only coughing/wheezing during the time period that I had bronchitis. I currently run 3-5 miles a day, never use an inhaler or other asthma medications, yet the doctor refuses to remove this diagnosis of asthma from my file.

Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Yes, this is possible.
In fact, asthma is very commonly diagnosed disease while in reality person is having simple bronchitis.
Asthma is chronic allergic lung disease where patient has to take care regular inhaled treatment and anti allergic drugs to control asthma.
Since you are not taking any drugs at present and doing good, possibility of bronchitis at that time is high.
I don't know why he refuses to change the diagnosis.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
