Hello and welcome to HCM, The ESR stands for erythrocyte sedimentation rate. ESR is raised in chronic inflammatory diseases. ESR is raised not only in cancerous conditions but in many non-neoplastic conditions like tuberculosis, sarcoidosis, granulomatous lesion, rheumatoid arthritis, bronchiectasis etc. The raised ESR levels needs to be clinically correlated. The raised ESR comes back to normal once the underlying condition is treated.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja P Wahal
