Ophthalmologist 's  Response
Dear Mrs. Tejaawini,
Your daughter has myopic astigmatism , a kind of refractive error which occurs due to altered curvature of the cornea or lens - cornea most of the times. . myopic astigmatism can increase as the child grows. . as the eye grows the axial length of the eyeball increases and the curvature of her cornea is more and more altered . . as a result the myopic astigmatism increases. . there may not be any major problem . . only thing that should be kept in mind is increasing myopic astigmatisn can be associated with keratoconus , a kind of ectatic condition of the cornea. . so it may be nice to record the K reading - a measure of the curvature of the cornea, refractive status, and careful slit lamp evaluation periodically. . Topographic techniques like Orbscan can also be used to do the same if needed... once keratoconus is ruled out she is quite safe. . there may not be any other major problem . .

Ophthalmologist Dr. Manish Malhotra's  Response
Dear the increase in the power usually does not occur so often but in case of children sometimes it is difficult to give full correction of glasses as cooperation and other factors are to be seen .Secondly the refraction should be performed under atropine as it helps in giving full correction
