Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I'm 74 years old. Lately, my BP is higher and my pulse rate has never been over a 100 before (unless after exercising years ago. My BP reading is 160/90 with Pulse rate 106. What are some reasons pulse rate elevated...should I make an appointment with my family physician?
I am more worried about your blood pressure rather than your pulse rate. Your blood pressure as you have mentioned is 160/90 which is high. Normal blood pressure is 120/80mmHg. Upto 140/90 is normal and if you are diabetic then you have to strictly maintain blood pressure very close to normal (at least 130/80). I suggest you to consult a good physician and get a thorough examination from him. He might also suggest some tests and later may prescribe some anti hypertensives. Avoid salt in your diet, avoid junk food, reduce high fat diet, do some physical activity regularly. Regards Dr Santosh
