Why Is My Stomach Nauseated And Painful After Taking Sulfatrim DS?
I have had gastritis for around 3 months, and sometimes it seems to be almost gone, and other times it comes back. I am taking omaprazole 20 mg. each morning. But I started 2 days ago with a urinary tract infection and was prescribed sulfa+trim ds 800/160 mg. I have taken it for 2 days, and this morning my stomach was really nauseated and painful. I m wondering if there is a connection between those medicines.

Sulfatrim can cause increase in the acidity in stomach which is causing you nauseated and pain . There is no interaction between Sulfatrim and Omeprazole .I advise you to stop taking Sulfatrim and ask your doctor for an alternative medicine.
Till then you can double the dose of Omeprazole to 40mg every morning . Avoid spicy food and citrus fruits .

The antibiotic Sulfatrim you are taking for urinary infection is capable of producing pain and nausea as side effects and this is probably the cause.
If you are having abdominal pain on and off in spite of omeprazole. it would be better to have an upper gastrointestinal endoscopy and also test for H. Pylori, a bacteria that can produce peptic ulcers and gastritis. If the bacteria is present, eradicating it with appropriate antibiotics will give you long lasting relief.
