Help pls. I'd like to know why my blood pressure is unusually high when I wake up in the morning.? I m hypertensive and given maintenance medicine by my doctor , lately I have this case of having 160/120 when I wake up in the morning. my doctor says that I just rest and take med that reduces blood pressure (catapress) I d like to seek other opinion if there are others causes why my blood pressure in the morning is high. Thanks in advance.
Blood pressure is normally higher in the morning. The fact that it is has started climbing in the morning may just mean that the drug regimen needs adjusting. If adjustment's/change's don't work, then there may be a need for a further workup to determine if something has changed in your health to cause this change.
Factors that may cause an abnormal daily pattern, such as high blood pressure in the morning, include:
* Poorly controlled high blood pressure
* Sleep apnea
* Tumors of the adrenal gland
* Kidney disease
* Certain medications, such as corticosteroids
* Night-shift work
* Caffeine use
* Tobacco use
* Too much stress
