Why My Mother's Cheeks Are Swollen And Very Hard?

My mother, 82, is suffering from a terminal, grade 4 brain tumor. She is bedfast, sleeps 20+ hours per day and is having difficulty with conversation. In the last 24 hours, her cheeks in her face have become swollen and very, very hard. What could this be?

Hello and thanks for using HCM. Often when people are terminally ill they do not drink adequate liquid and the parotid glands in the cheeks get hard and inflamed. You can try massage of the area and warm compresses but it may not resolve if she is not able to drink enough fluids to stay hydrated.
