Why Should Meftal P Given Along With Calpol For Fever And Vomiting In A Toddler?
Hey my son is 15 month old and had fever along with vomiting. His paediatric said to give him calpol for fever and if fever doesn t come down with it, he told to give meftal p along with calpol. Is there any medical reason that meftal p should be given along with calpol and not solely?
As per your complain Calpol contains Acetaminophen and it has antipyretic action and is one of the safest drug for fever reduction even in infants and toddlers..
Meftal P contains mefanemic acid and Paracetamol also has a stronger antipyretic action but it is not given as a First line treatment and is given as second line treatment if fever does not reduce with Calpol..
Therefore you should give it to your child only if Calpol does not reduce fever and the ideal dose is 25mg/kg/day in divided doses..
Hope this information helps..
