Why Was A Nasal Surgery Needed Soon After A Fracture, With Tampons Usage, And Could This Impact The Deviated Septum And Chronic Sinus Infections?

Hello, I have a question about nasal fractures. I had one when I was younger and I remember most of the details about it, but I have questions now that I wasn t old enough to know to ask back then. I know it was broken in two places, I bled into my sinuses as opposed to out of my nostrils, they said that they normally wait for swelling to go down before doing surgery but told me I needed it ASAP and did mine 48 hours after the break. I had things that resembled tampons sewn into my nose and I have a thin scar that goes across the top of my nose. I m just curious in what circumstances they would choose the course they did. The DR is retired now and office closed, so I can t ask him. They told me I would need at least one more operation and few years later, they performed another nose surgery on me and the recovery was almost identical. Fast forward to today, I think my septum is deviated and I have chronic sinus infections. I would like to know why they did what they did and if that has any impact on what I m experiencing now. I wanted to ask this before going to see an ENT.

Otolaryngologist / ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hi,

If yours symptoms are recurrent and bothersome may need a CT before I opine, depending upon findings may suggest medical or surgical treatment. Surgery is not a MUST in all cases.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
