Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have gout very bad. I have a medication to take that is called Colcrys, but it gives me such bad diarrhea that I never take more than 2 pills when I have a gout attack. Lately I get it in both feet at the same time which is so hard to bear. Just getting pretty unbearable lately. Any suggestions I would appreciate.
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history and understood the concerns. Colcrys is Colchicine used in gout. Diarrhea, Cramping, pain in abdomen are known side effects of this medicine. But it is also important to take in cases gout. I would advise you the following in such a situation: Consult a Rheumatologist, tell him that there are side effects of Colcrys so that he can give you another medicines still effective to control the gout symptoms and yet have minimal or no side effects. Try taking a PPI like Omeprazole to ward-off the side effects. Avoid the foods that instigate or enhance the gout. Control the stress and strain well to get a proper help in control of gout.
