Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Will Elavil Help In Reducing Soreness Of Feet And Is It Peripheral Neuropathy?
Have pain in both feet- feels like walking on bones- last 10 weeks- came on out of blue- slight tingling but the tingling does not bother nearly as much as the constant ache. Think doctors are just guessing- one recommended Elavil as it would help with nerve pain signal. I am reluctant to take it as not convinced the pain is nerve related. They are calling in Peripheral neuropathy mainly as the pain is diffuse in each foot and one side of body has diminished ankle and knee reflexes. I have no back pain. I do not have any radiating pain - just the soreness in both feet. Do you think this is peripheral Neuropathy? Would Elavil help? Tested Negative for Diabetes and even below the pre diabetes range. Usually not scared of pain as long as I know a medicine or surgery can cure it. this seems like a condition hard to treat. please advise.
The presence of tingling supports your doctors' views that the pain is due to peripheral neuropathy. In my opinion, you should give Elavil a trial as peripheral neuropathy appears to be the most likely cause of your symptoms. Even if diabetes has been ruled out, there are many other conditions like vitamin deficiency which can be responsible. You can also discuss with your doctors the possibility of getting a Nerve Conduction Velocity (NCV) test done to confirm the diagnosis.
Hope this is of help. Best wishes.
