Will I Have Any Long Term Effects Of Wrong IV Dose?
I was given a full dose of iron Ferrlecit,125mg in an IV. I was only to have half of that dose,per my Rematologist.T,hef,,ion nurse made a mistake, I became very sick, server stomach cramp s ,sweating,weak,etc. They then put zafran (4mg) in my IV for nausea.Bottom line, what was suppose to be an hour infusion became a 3hr. nightmare with my husband having to come pick me up and drive me home. They really down played it but I m very upset and wondering if I might have any long term side effects?

The serious adverse reaction rate to intravenous high-molecular-weight iron dextran (old parenteral iron preparation) is 0.7%.
However, newer iron complexes available in the United States, such as sodium ferric gluconate (Ferrlecit) has much lower rates of adverse effects and hence prefered.
You had an allergic reaction even to newer iron preparation and it seems you have recovered.
However delayed reaction is known to occur several days after the infusion of a large dose of iron (Generalized symptoms appearing can include arthralgias, skin rash, and low-grade fever).
These may be dose-related, but they do not preclude the further use of parenteral iron in the patient.
