Will IVF Treatment Be Effective While Being HIV Positive And CD4 Count Being 445?

Hello I m a 30 years old Female married since 2005 from a middle class family and have no children. I have been trying for the baby since that time. Initially the doctors told that I have an ovarian cyst due to which I m not conceiving, but now I don’t have anything like that. I have also got two surgeries for colostomy, appendix before 11 years. Since I am trying for a child, one of the doctor suggested me to undergo for a laparoscopic surgery to find what is my actual problem. Till this time my ultrasound scan , TVS scan and my HSG report was normal. In 2009 April I got the surgery done. After the laparoscopic surgery I got to know that both of my fallopian tubes are blocked and there is no chance of natural conception. The doctor has suggested me to go for (IVF). After a year i.e. in 2010 I had to go for a general profile checkup because I started loosing my weight and I got to know that I m an HIV positive and my husband is Negative. Since my CD4 count was too low I had to start with ART medicines. Now I m taking ART medicines from last 8 months and my CD4 count is (445), and husband is still HIV negative. Can I go for IVF. Please reply me we are very desperate to have a child I m eagerly waiting for your reply. Do your hospital do IVF for us. Please reply me and help me.

Hello,
Thank you for your query.

Yes, you may try for IVF.
I understand your anxiousness to get pregnant and have a healthy baby.
It is important to discuss few thing with your doctor. Certain precautions need to be taken to prevent transmitting the virus to your baby and for you to have a healthy pregnancy.

: your viral load needs to be low to u detectectable before trying to conceive.
: your may need medications to prevent opportunistic infections like fungal infections.
: you need a daily supplement of folic acid.
:maintain a healthy weight and lifestyle. Exercise regularly. Eat healthy. Get adequate sleep.
:minimize alcohol, caffeine and smoke.

Once you get pregnant, you will need to discuss and decide about birthing and feeding options. Breastfeeding is not advised with HIV positive status.
Your care giver will be able to help you through this.
Your cd4 count is still a little low. I suggest that you wait till it gets more than 700 to start trying to conceive.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
Wish you good health
