Hi, I am suffering from headache since last one month. The pain mostly starts at the back of my head and radiates to the top. It is acute but is very discomforting at times. Do not have this always but has pretty frequent since last week. Any advice on whom should I consult for the same and will taking nicip tablets help relieve the pain?
Hello Rita,
Your Headache is likely be Migraine. Non Steroidal Anti Inflammatory drugs do help in acute treatment of Headache. But they are not advisable over a long period of time as they can cause medication overuse headache. You could use either Acetaminophen, naproxen, ibuprofen or indomethacin for initial pain relief instead of Nicip.
If you get headache frequently (more than 10days in a month) it is advisable to take Preventive medications regularly.Your doctor will be able to advise you about it from a wide group of medications available like Beta Blockers, Amitryptyline, Doxepin, Valproate, Topiramate etc.
Please consult a Neurologist for further evaluation and treatment.He/she can also help rule out other serious causes of headache.Hope this helps.
