Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was diagnosed with kidney stones about a month ago. the problem got severe a week later. I took medicines and gradually the pain disappeared in a week. I m still taking the Medicine. Last week I tried masturbating, I was taken aback by the fact that there appeared to be no sperm in my semen. day before yesterday, I tried it again, and its still the same. About 3-4 weeks back I was doing just fine. I am really afraid of what this might be. I can t talk to anyone about it. I need your opinion on what should I do. Do kidney stones have affect on a persons sperm count? will it be alright? What should I do?
There is no co-relation between kidney stones and sperm count. Kidney stones occur in kidney and urine flows from kidney to ureter, where as semen is produced in testes and from there, they are drained into vas deferens. Therefore there is no common pathway between these two, which may cause the kidney stones to block flow of semen.
Only the common pathway is distally in urethra and presence of urethral stone primarily is a rare occurrence except the stone coming from bladder or due to stasis of urine in urethra as a result of some urethral stricture etc. However, treatment of kidney stones by extra corporeal shock wave can definitely may affect count, motility and also long term ultra-structural defects of sperm morphology. Therefore in young adult males alternative methods of treating the kidney stones should be preferred.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
