Will Accidentally Swallowing A Stapler Pin Cause Any Bodily Harm?
good afternoon doctor. I have accidentally swallowed a stapler pin. I think it has not got stuck in my oesophagous as I m not feeling any discomfort. so sir what actions should I take as a safety measure?what will be the outcome of this carelessness?what will happen inside the stomach? will the stapler come out as stool? what are the symptoms?
Stapler pin is very small in size. If you have swallowed it and you do not have symptoms that it is struck in oesophagus, then it must have been passed to stomach.
Acid in stomach is strong enough to dissolve it. If you would have consulted a Surgeon immediately, it could have got it removed by gastroscopy.
Most probably it would have been dissolved in stomach acid or will be passed through the stools. But you are advised to consult Surgeon if you get any symptoms like painor discomfort in the abdomen.
You may require digital x-ray of your abdomen or may be CT scan of the whole abdomen. If at all it is found somewhere in abdomen, it can be followed up and removed, if necessary.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
