Will Being On Medication For Reducing TSH And FT4 During Pregnancy Cause Neurodefects In Child?
I have hashimotos and was off my medication for 6 months. I became pregnant and went back on 75 mcg at 6 weeks. My TSH was 10 and my FT4 was in a good/normal. My second check up at 12 weeks my numbers had not decreased and stayed the same. Medication was upped to 150 mcg. I m concerned of the effects on my child. Will this cause neurodeficit?
Hi,Dear.Welcome to HEALYHCARE MAGIC. Medications for hashimotos's disease can be taken safely during pregnancy ,they are not having any adverse effect on developing foetus.Although it is important to take them regularly during pregnancy. But you need a regular follow up of your TSH & T4 so that appropriate doses can be provided. And there is no effect of these medicines when you breastfeed your child. So do not worry and visit your GP for follow ups. Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.
Wishing you good health.
