Will Discontinuing Depo Provera Shots Result In Bleeding Again?
I am 47 years old. I have been on the depo provera shot for about 8 years. My dr. Did a blood to to see if I am menopausal. I am ?menopausal so now he tells me no more depo shots! I am afraid of going off the shot, I have not had any bleeding for years and am concerned that once this last shot wears off the bleeding will start. I also no many friends going through menopause and they have horrible bleeding, very heavy that lasts for weeks, I was hoping the depo shot would let me avoid this. Also I do not want to become pregnant.
Unless your menopause is initiated natural way, you will get withdrawal bleeding after completion of Depo shots over a period of few weeks to months. However, rest assure, that it will not give you heavy flow as you are using the same since 8 years. If you have entered menopause during this time period (which you or your consultant do not know), you will not menses over a period of more than 12 months.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
