Will Fluid In Ear Cause Pressure , Pain & Headache?

I have ear pressure and pain. Headaches. Went to er last week, and told it was fluid behind ear canal. Was given antibotics and still was not better in a week. Went to ENT and he said ears were fine. He didn t take a cat scan but they did at er week earlier which showed fluid. My ears still hurt and I am dizzy and feel like I m under water.

Hello,
I went through your question. I understand your concern.

Normally there will not be any fluid in the middle ear. Usually it is filled with air. When there fluid, it means that there is some infection. In your case, I am suspecting early stage of Acute suppurating otitis media. Here, you will have fullness of ear, difficulty in hearing. ear ache, head ache, dizziness. As it progresses, you may develop discharge from ear.

The treatment is antibiotics which you are already taking. Usually it will take weeks to get complete relief from the symptoms. I suggest you to continue with the same treatment. Drink warm water. Inhalation of steam may help.

You can always contact me if you have any other queries. I'll be happy to help.

Take care.

Regards,
Dr. Prathap Kumar
