Will Getting Only One Drug Help Treating Cancer?

Hi. my mom was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer and shes supposed to get administered 2 drugs 1 called gemzar i believe and the other calles claropratin or something like that but she cant get claropratin because her creatinine level is 3.9 right now. With her only getting that 1 drug and not the other is it still doing something for the cancer even though shes not getting both drugs?

Since your mom is already in stage 4 of lung cancer the aim of tratment is now palliation of her symptoms and not cure.
Carboplatin drug cannot be used for your mother because of her high creatinine level and low creatinine clearence.
Carboplatin excretes through kidneys which may cause more damage to her kidneys and increase the creatinine level further up.
Gemzar drug also called gemcitabine can be safely used as this drug does not excrete through kidneys so will not damage the kidneys any further.
The aim of treatment is now improving quality of life and palliating her symptoms and keep her tumour under control which gemzar should do.
