Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a heart condition and i might have to go into surgery soon. On the back of my medic alert it says: Repaired Tetrology of Fallot/ prosthetic pulmonary valve situs inversus . I have to now get the valve replaced and my doc says that there is an obstruction blocking part of a main vein. This is causing my heart to work harder. I have to go into surgery and i was wondering what aree the chances that i could not get back from having my heart being taken by life support (the thingy that pumps blood for you)? Also, if i survive that is there any chance i could die earlier than a regular human? I am kinda scared and i need help PLEASE.
There are so many advances and docs have so much more knowledge and experience now that as risky as the surgery could be, your chances of recovery are pretty good. Please talk your fears over with your doc. If you are religious, say a prayer, even if you aren't it can't hurt. It will help ease your mind. Any surgery carries a risk, that doesn't mean it will happen to you. When you are recovered come back on here and let us know how you are. Please talk to your doc and maybe your Clergyman about your fears, it will help.
