Will It Be Safe To Take Valacyclovir 500 For Pain On The Right Ear?

I have a sharp pain in my right ear,radiating down my jaw behind my right eye,causing headache,hard to open mouth,excruciating pain.dr said it was viral, some nerve in head radiating pain,to outer ear treating me with valacyclovir 500 ,I have severe allergies,and asthma& have had sever sinus problems before,but have never had an earache like this

Hi. Thank you for writing to HCM.

Valacyclovir is an anti-viral drug and may combat the viral infection. In the mean while it may not reduce the pain and for which you will need a painkiller. Since it appears from your history that the pain is probably due to inflammation from the viral infection, you will need a good anti-inflammatory medication like ibuprofen 500 mg twice a day for 5 days. If pain does not improve with this then you may need medications that reduce neuropathic pain such as gabapentin or pregabalin. These can be prescribed by your treating doctor.

Give this a few days and you should feel better.
