Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Like you are suspecting, you need to be cautious when you have symptoms of genital
warts, particularly while masturbating, as it is possible to spread the warts from one part of your genital region to another.
However, you can take certain precautions and you can continue to enjoy the act of
masturbation without worrying about warts. Transmission risk is greatest from contact with visible warts and hence you need to completely avoid touching them. You can use a barrier such as a condom if the warts are situated on your external genitalia or you can just avoid touching them if they are at other places, such as on your inner thighs or buttocks.
Also, washing your hands thoroughly with soap and water before and after the act and keeping the genitals clean and dry would be helpful.
The strains of
human papillomavirus (
HPV) that cause genital warts are distinct from strains that cause warts on other parts of the body, and so you don't have to worry about getting warts on your hands or elsewhere.
Since genital warts are highly contagious, it is important to communicate about it and practice
safe sex with your partner(s).
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
