Will Taking Aleva Be Safe Over Advil?

i think i slipped and hit my head on my hard wood floor. all i know is i came to within seconds but didnt know exactly how it happened. i was going to open my front door and my flip flop likely slid. i got a very large bump right away on my head to which ive been applying ice and it seems to have gone down a bunch but still is quite present and painful and i can feel it. i was nauseous at first and out of breath when i got up and tried to sit down on my couch. it was like the wind was knocked out of me. i thought to take advil for the swelling. so i did but now i read i should have taken something like aleve instead? i am feeling a bit better def not as terrible as i was when it happened initially. i no longer feel nauseous. i also hit my arm around my elbow so thats sore but havent dealt with that yet. not as important. should i be worried? do anything else? wait to take 1 or 2 aleve in 2 1/2 hrs from now? i know to make sure i stay up? when can i finally feel ok going to sleep? one more thing, my ears feel clogged.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Aleve and Ibuprofen have the same effects. You can use either one of the other. Just use them every 6 hours difference as needed it you have pain. They do not reduce the swelling. Instead, ice is good for that.

You try to not sleep at least 4 hours after the incident happened. After that, you should just be aware of having weired symptoms around 24 hours after, but otherwise should be not a problem after. The clogging in the ears is not related with the incident.

I hope your answers are answered.
