Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My brother has been hospitalized with bleeding started two days ago with weakness and dizziness with black stool. the doctors did several tests and they are saying that they have added clamps to stop the bleeding He has severe knee and back problems and has been taking Alleve daily for years. Could this be the cause?
aleve is the most likely cause. Aleve contains naproxen which is a non-steroidal-anti-inflammatory-drug (NSAID). NSAIDs do cause gastrointestinal bleeding particularly with frequent usage. Since he's been admitted to the hospital, he's going to be all right though, so please don't worry.
He will have to avoid NSAID in the future...
I hope I've answered your question. Please let me know if you need further assistance.
Kind Regards, Dr Panagiotis Zografakis
