Will The Healing Rate Be Slow After Surgery If Being Diabetic?
My husband was recently diagosed being a diabetic back in august and is taking 4 each 500mg
ER metformin and 2 each gabapentin. He is 6ft approximately 225 lbs and is loosing weight with eating the correct diet for a diabetic. He recently got, what I would call, is a butt ulcer and went to the hospital. The hospital put him on amoxicilian and another anitbiotic, although it does not seem to be doing anything. They did a culture and when I called the hospital for the results, they told me that if there were any problems they would have contacted us. He is expected to have surgery on his foot this week and is thinking of postponing it because of the healing rate. He is depressed and does not know what to do. Thank you
Hi, I had gone through your query and understood your concerns.
Mam, I appreciate your concern. IN diabetics, when sugar levels are not under control, the healing rate is slow. But under strict control of sugar levels the healing is almost same as normal as non diabetics.
With out worrying much discus this with treating doctor and have appropriate dosage of medication which keeps sugar levels under strict control and then go for a surgery when two consecutive sugar levels at 1 month gap are under control.
Hope this guides you. For any other queries you can write to us. we will be happy to help you. Thank you. Dr Phanindra Dulipala Diabetologist.
