Will The Indentation Caused By A Damaged Nail Go Away After The Growth Of New Nail?
Hello Doctor! About 7-8 weeks ago, today, I slammed my moms car door on my thumb nail. It throbbed for a good 2 days and it hurt like heck! Now, It's black and slowly falling off. Some of the nail by the cuticle fell off on impact and every time I press down on the top of the nail to see if everything is okay, the left side lifts up a little and I can see a indentation on the nail bed. Now my question is that if my thumb nail falls off, will the indentation go away. I see my new nail growing in normally. Also, what should I do when it comes off? I haven't done anything yet because I don't want to make anything worse. Thank you, Doctor.
I am empathetic to the nail injury suffered by you. nail injuries are one of the most painful injuries.
If the injury is deep enough then it causes indentation for a time being period. In your case also it may take 4-5 months to get normal nail architecture.
The most important thing is healthy diet containing lot of Vitamin A and Vitamin C with proteins in your diet. Do not try applying over the counter products as these can further aggravate the situation.
