Hello. Thanks for asking from HCM.
I can understand your concern. The rib pain should be evaluated properly before reaching unto some diagnosis. You should ask him to point it and look at the site for any
: swelling
: redness
: tenderness on touch
If you find any of these signs, it could be due to direct hit. For treatment, you should follow few tips
: Avoid pressure at injury site
: Bed rest
: Apply cold compresses
: you can give him painkiller syrup like
Diclofenac sodium after proper prescription
If there is no above sign but he is having pain on particular movement and pain increases on inspiration, it could be
muscle strain or pull. It can be managed by
: Bed rest
: Stretching of muscle
: Painkiller syrup as mentioned before
: Apply cold compresses
If he is having cough, cold, fever along with
chest pain, then it could be due to
chest infection like pleuritis. For treatment, you should consult paediatrician as it needs medical care.
At home, you can
: Protect him from cold
: Give him warm milk or other warm food
: Steam inhalation four times daily
: Cough syrup and antibiotic therapy after proper prescription
Head injury usually does not cause pain over ribs. However
spine injury can cause
radiating pain to chest which does not seem to be present in your child.
Hope it will help you. Take care.
Thanks.
