Will The Metal Coil Cause Difficulty During Spinal MRI?
I had a colon resection 15 years ago (I am 79 now). My colon is very short. After back surgery and a probable over dose of pain med. in addition to the anesthetic, the artery leading to the colon burst. I think the repair was done with a metal coil. Question: I am going to have an MRI due to spinal stenosis. Will the coil which I assume was metal be a problem? Thank you
1.Yes it can be a problem - you need to consult and go through the records to evaluate the metal used in the procedure. 2.As the high magnetic power in the MRI can displace the metal peaces from it place. 3.A CT can be an alternative - but not very good for spinal chord and nerves and disc pathologies. 4.First get a x-ray abdomen to seen if actually any thing is placed, if so then it can be further consulted. 5.The X-ray will help to detect even a pin sized metallic structure, but will not able to specify which content.
Good luck. Hope i have answered your query, any thing to ask ? do not hesitate to ask. http://doctor.healthcaremagic.com/doctors/dr-ganesh/62888
