OB & GYN Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

Depo is a contraceptive method.
First, it prevents the ovaries from releasing an egg, which is also known as ovulation. But in some in some cycle there is ovulation and pregnancy is prevented as following.
Second, it thickens the cervical mucus which acts as a barrier preventing the sperm from reaching the egg.
Third, it changes the lining of the uterus preventing implantation. Ethical consideration.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Richa Agarwal, OBGYN
