I suffer from Vasa Vagel Syncope and have experience very sudden blackouts whilst seated when in pain - lasting for about 5-10mins loss of consciousness. I am currently 25 weeks pregnant and am concerned with how the pain I will experience during labor will affect my syncope? Can you help?

OBGYN, Maternal and Fetal Medicine, Dr. Prabha 's Response
Hi normal labour has 3 stages in late second stage there is almost 3 to 4 contractiones lasting for 45 seconds. Yes it could result in syncopal attacks. When head distends dilates before expulsion again there is another chance of attack. If i was your doctor i would advice you for epidural anaethesia depending on obstetrical situation possibly refer you for preprocedure anaesthetic consultation.
