Woke Up Deaf In Left Ear, Right Ear Already Deaf. What Is The Normal Procedure Of Tests ?

I woke up deaf in my left ear 1 yr and a half ago. My right ear has been deaf for 10 years. I would like to know if I should have received more than just a "look" in my ears and an MRI? They have referred me for a cochlear. based on those 2 tests and an audiogram.. which proved i am virtually deaf. Maybe 5% left in one ear. I am concerned because a CT was not done on me. I don't even know if my inner or middle ear is working fine. They peaked in my outer ear and said everything looks normal. I don't know if my cochlear is normal looking without a CT. My question is what is the normal protocol of tests I should have received or I should NOW ask for?

Hi,

I am sorry about the trouble you are facing.

Let me inform you what is audiogram is - its a test that will look for the auditory nerve's sensitivity to the sound, in other words checks wether your nerve is working or not, since on 5% on one ear is working according to audiogram studies it means you have a major defect in you conduction nerves.

By that they know where was the problem, not CT Scan/ MRI will look into you brain in case their was nothing wrong externally. But the nerve test gave the answer so their nothing they will find new on CT/MRI. If you wish you may proceed with it.

Advice: -
1) Your 5% nerve was working, as far as a long short you might want to ask for the Cochlear implant and its advantage for you case.
2) I would like you to take another audiogram some place else.
