Would Penicillin Have The Same Effect As Amoxicillin And Can It Be Taken For Throat Infection?

Hello, I have previously had an infection in my mouth due to my wisdom teeth, and I was prescribed Amoxicillin twice. I now feel like I have an infection again, but more towards my throat area. I have the yellowish-colored film on my tongue I noticed during the first couple infections. Would penicillin have the same effect as the amoxicillin if I were to take it for my throat?

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern.

As per your complain and presentation of symptoms Amoxicillin is an appropriate antibiotic that can be taken for infection related to wisdom tooth.
If you have the infection again then you can either take another course of Amoxicillin whereas if you want to take Penicillin it will also have similar antimicrobial/anti-bacterial action as amoxicillin and Penicillin both belong to same group of antibiotics..

I would like to give you an additional information that in case if you have a recurring infection in your wisdom tooth you should consult a dentist and get evaluated and in case if it is due to infection of the gum flap causing Pericoronitis then either removal of gum flap or extraction of wisdom tooth can provide complete relief..
For tooth decay either root canal treatment or extraction has to be done..
