Would Fetal Distress During Delivery Cause Long Lasting Damage To The Baby?
Our granddaughter was delivered by a midwife, was in fetal distress, was crowning for about 1 hr, finally when her heart rate was dropping suddenly, the midwife told me to stop taking still pics, she made 1 incision, the baby still was too big, Tammi too small, so made another incision. When she popped out, I thought I was looking at a stillborn. The cord was wrapped around her neck, she had to be bagged twice. Graci is 3 wks old now. Would this cause any damage such as cerebral palsy and if so, at what stage would this be medically noticed? Thanks, Sharon
Your fears are correct, but, lets monitor her growth parameters with time. The damage done is not reversible and it may not manifest ! The cause is lack of oxygen, which the child has suffered due to long time. So, keep her growth chart with the help of a pedatrician, is the best advice.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
