As you have an L1 end plate
fracture , this is totally ageing factor and called as a pathological fracture. Since you are 62, this kind of fracture is commonly addressed as pathological fracture. Also, the
steroids are given for temporary pain relieving factors of which the side effects are totally unknown.
But as you age and no exercises then chances for degenerative changes to occurs is possible and ageing is an added drawback for pathological fractures
I will recommend to undergo and
MRI and post which undergoing
physical therapy for stabilizing the spine is recommended via exercises.
In my clinical practice I see abundant cases in
geriatrics with unknown cause of fracture. they respond well to physical therapy
