Would Menstruation Affect Blood Test Result?

Hi I d like to ask if is ok to have a blood test during menstruation period? Last week I have my blood test while my menstruation is in heavy flow.. When I got my results all are Ok except for my MCV which is 95.3 fL and it says high and my Red cell distribution width-sd 46.7 fL says it is high.. Does my menstruation period affect the result of my blood test? I hope that you answer my question.. Thanks..

Normally MCV range is between 80 to 96... In adult female...
So I don't think it is too high...
RDW is high which is usually seen in nutritional anemia ....

Menstruation doesn't affect CBC result...
If menstrual flow high than HB level can decrease because of that...

If still in reference range of the laboratory, mcv is high than serum B12 level should be checked to rule out vitamin B12 deficiency

Kindly post your full CBC report along with peripheral smear examination for more comments

Yes, the heavy menstrual bleeding could be responsible for the blood tests.

1. Mean corpuscular volume (MCV) is the average volume of red cells in a specimen. Its normal range is 80-96 fL/red cell.

2. Red cell distribution width (RDW) measures the variation in the size of red blood cells (anisocytosis). Its normal level is 39-46 fL.

Based on the given result of the lab tests you seem to have slighltly
elevated RDW & normal MCV which is suggestive of an early iron deficiency anemia apparently caused by heavy menstrual bleeding.
