Hi, I Was Told Yesterday By The Obgyn That My

hi, I was told yesterday by the obgyn that my daughter had a membrane that was basically closing her vagina not allowing her to use a tampon. I was told that it has to be surgically removed by a ped's obgyn. Have you heard of this and if so what is the surgical process

Hi and thank you so much for this query.

How old is your daughter? This, though rare, can be observed in adolescent at the start of menses. This is called imperforate hymen. This means that there is no opening in the hymen that can allow menstrual flow to the exterior. It is no major surgery. It would simply consist in making an opening on the hymen. Minor with no major risk and complications are very rare.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thank you so much for using our services and feel free to ask for more information and clarification if need be.
