My Son Has A Boil For 2 Weeks And It

my son has a boil for 2 weeks and it is as big as a billiard ball.. the doctor drained it and gave him an antibiotics for 7 days.. the doctor said if the hard area that sorround the boil did not dissappear for 7 days ,the doctor will sedate my son to remove the hard area/?Is it possible doc?
