There are different causes for blood in stool.1. Hemorrhoids, 2. Fistula; 3. Fissures 4. Causes higher up in the colon, like diverticula.

My recommendation is , get the anal examination(using a scope called anoscope). Through this examination surgeon will see any thing abnormal , like hemorrhoids in Anal canal.

If nothing is seen in anoscopy, you may need Colonoscopy.

Because all these are surgical problems. Treatment depends on the cause. Medicines will not cure these diseases.

The bleeding per rectum has the common cause is piles(haemorhoid. Fissure and fistula does not have bleding so much. In fistula you get some sticky stain on your under wear. In fissure there will be blood streak stool (line of blood on stool ) and extreme painful during defecation, no frank bleding drop wise after stool. The comon cause is piles. diverticulum will bled if rapture. We can think cancer of rectum also have bleding. So first comon cause is piles. Yes you can go for colonscopy.
