Hi, my right nostril and right ear are always blocked. I feel more pain in my right ear when chewing or moving my jaw. I am very sensitive to cold infection and I have taken antibiotics that cure the infections but not my nostril and ear problem. Could there be a common cause for this?
Hi, I am Dr Sonia S V. I am an ENT Surgeon[Specialist in diseases of the Ear ,Nose ,Throat and Head and Neck Surgery] . The ear and the nose are connected. There is a delicate tube called the eustachian tube which connects the middle ear to the back of the nose[ called nasopharynx].If some infection or obstruction develops in the nose it can affect the ear in turn. That is why you can even develoop ear pain, hearing loss, sounds in ear or even dizziness as a result of a problem in the nose. For a proper diagnosis ,a nasal endoscopy can diagnose problems in the nose and nasopharynx and if needed a middle ear function test called a tympanogram can be done.
