i am due to undergo surgery on my right knee next week. the doctor is doing the roux goldwaith procedure and i have no information on it. how long does surgery take etc. and what will after pain be like? thanks
Hi.. Roux goldwaith surgery is a procedure performed on the knee for recurrent patella dislocation.. Patella as you know is the bone present infront of the knee and is held in its position by structure above and below.. The structures holding in place are muscles and tendons... In the procedure the lower tendons are split and realligned so as to prevent the shifting of the patella from moving sidewards and thus prevents it getting dislocated.. The whole surgery may take few hours (around 2 to 4 hours).. Following the surgery, the severe pain may be for a few days and then will slowly fade away... You may be on intensive physiotherapy following the surgery for minimum 4 to 6 months... For finer details of the procedure, the time of hospitalisation, y ou may contact your orthopedician..
