this is concerning an elderly gentlemens 12 yr old 86 lb Lab mix that was diagnosed with Diabetis 6 months back. The older guy loves his dog deeply and just got out of the hospital himself for some seriuos medical heart conditions and lung problems . The dog is on Levamer a very expensive insulin for both pets and humans, and now the Vet wants to try the dog on more specialized food at a cost of another $110 per week. We've suggested as his caretakers to change his food over to a lowere protein can food made by Science Diet that appears to be working in our own 18yr dog since it has a 4% lowere protein level. His dog drinks a lot of water still as the dog won't eat anything but Alpo can & dry which has way too much sugar and corn supplements so I believe that the insulin is basically being flushed out of his system due to the bad food choices. What do you think ?
