Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Whether It Is Safe To Give My Baby The Medicine That Was Prescribed.
whether it is safe to give my baby the medicine that was prescribed my 4 months old son has been consistently coughing for 10 days now. His doctor conducted a skin test to find out if he s TB positive, and while waiting for the results, she prescribed a bronchodilator Doxofylline (Ansimar) 100mg/5ml syrup for my baby. Based on my research, there are no recommended cough syrup for children below 6 months old. Since she is a pediatrician and pulmunary expert at that, I wish to seek other opinions whether it is safe to give my baby the medicine that was prescribed. Thank you in advance
As ayurveda is considered, your problem is also related with the shkirdoshas.I would suggest you to understand this fact from an ayuved specialist. If the problem is related with the anatomy of respiratory tract if any, then dont do any hurry to sort it down because the nature mother resolves it after some period. For you=aviod mental stress-outside food-cold beverages including cold water-fermentated food etc as you are breast feeding mother.Take SATWIK aahar.iIF any query call +91-9422001081-vaidya ASHUTOSH THIGALE.For your child give Dipyak swedan on the chest twice daily, apply til tailam(warm)+sendhav salt(powederd)at night daily.
Hi, I am Dr Sonia S V. I am an ENT Surgeon & Head & Neck Specialist. Small babies have very narrow airways and often require bronchodilators even more frequently than adults. Generic cough syrups such as over the counter medications are generally not recommended for children and especially young ones to prevent misuse.Since it is your childs doctor who has prescribed the medication you can safely take it as she or he must have ausculatated the chest of the baby and then only taken a decision that your baby requires the medication. As a mother you are correct to be apprehensive but you can trust your pediatrician and safely give the prescribed medicine to your child .Be sure to take her back to your doctor at the recommended time and do not under or over dose[ this is especially important in all childrens medications.
