Alzheimer's disease is a form of Dementia. It occurs due to age related changes in brain. Amyloid containing plaques are formed in neurons and neuronal death start occurring. Yes it is not curable but the progression of this disease can be halted or slowed down. Various medicines like Donepezil, Memantin etc are very useful in slowing down the progression. Antioxidants especially Vitamin E capsules are also used. Give him proper support, always keep a paper pen near him. Help him in playing some brain games ilke Sudoku, Cross word etc.
