I m a 52 yr old wf. I have been smoking for about 38 years. 7 months ago I developed high BP. I also have a congenital heart defect, bicuspid aorta. Last month during a routine echo and CT scan I was given a diagnosis of emphysema (moderate to severe). Of course in the back of my mind I knew I had some lung damage but never the less this was very hard to hear. If I quit smoking now, will the emphysema improve? Or at least not get any worse?
