What is Uterine artery embolization?

Uterine artery embolization where the uterine artery is blocked by micro particles. The procedure is performed by an interventional radiologist under local anesthesia. It is mainly used to treat fibroids as the loss of blood supply leads to shrinking of fibroids. Other uses are for management of post partum hemorrhage not responding to medical management and the uterus needs to be conserved.
