Question: I'm 43- underwent anesthesia last Friday for the "Novosure" procedure (endometerial ablation) and when I woke up the doctor said they couldn't do it because my cervix was misshaped. After an ultrasound, vaginal ultrasound, D & C 2 weeks prior, I'm wondering if my doctor is a quack. How could he NOT know? He now recommends a hysterectomy. My original complaint was having extended periods. Sometimes lasting 3 weeks. Never heavy flow, just constant. After the D & C, no bleeding only watery discharge until 1 week post- I started a "period" bright red, heavy discharge with cramps that felt like contractions (never been pregnant but can only guess)
Hi Karel,
Yes, you are right. It is very difficult to miss Misshapen Cervix while doing D & C. A sonologist may rarely miss Misshapen Cervix during Abdominal / Vaginal Sonography, but a Gynecologist would certainly pick it up while doing D & C.
Misshapen Cervix may also occur in Cervical Cancer. So you may also go for a Pap smear. An endoscopy can take pictures and you may yourself see the condition of your cervix. A CT / MRI scan would help in checking for any other complications.
Above all, you need to take a second opinion from a XXXXXXX Gynecologist, who will guide you on the above-mentioned tests.
Hope I have answered your query. If you have any follow up queries I will be available to answer them
