Allergic To Vicryl Suture, Going For Surgery. Suggest Alternaive For Vicryl?
Question: Vicryl suture allergy, patient going to surgery in our OR, what is the most dissimilar braided suture alternative?
Hello,
Alternatives to vicryl (polyglactin) is made up of plain catgut (chromic), polylactic acid and polydioxanone/moncryl but most come only as monofilaments not braided.
So, if you want to get the patient operated (while hoping that see is not also allergic to the other types of absorbable surgical sutures), I suggest you consider taking the other types of monofilaments. Probably the other types are already coming as braided sutures.
A local pharmacy might be able to help you with that.
Hope this helps
