How Can Facial Scarring Caused By Soluble Sutures Be Resolved?

Dear Dr, I have just had an alarplasty procedure done in Thailand and the results so far (I only had it done yesterday) look ok, but the the surgeon used soluble sutures. I have heard these should only be used for internal purposes as they can leave greater scarring than removable sutures. I really want to minimize any scarring as this is my face! I am due a follow up appointment with the surgeon in 5 days time before I leave thailand to come back to the UK. Do you think I should ask the doctor to remove my stitches then? I do not want to wait forever for these sutures to dissolve and I want to do anything to minimize scarring. What is your advice?

Hello,

No need to remove the sutures now, if you remove the sutures now, it will decrease the wound strength and further progress to scarring.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Wishing you all the best.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
